7 STEPS TO TAKE YOUR LIFE TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Making a decision to make a change is the first step to actually making a change. What things would you like to see different in your life? Pull out a piece of paper and write the words Myself, Relationship, Family, Career/ Money, Fun/Travel, My Environment across the top. Fold your paper in half. Fill in the top half with all the positive things in each category. Fill in the bottom have with things that need improvement.
Look at your list from step 1. Focus on each category and allow yourself to feel what is most important to you right now. Highlight the thing that you are most passionate about changing in red, second most in yellow, and third in green, (or any other 3 colors if you don’t have those). Figure out who YOU want to be, what you want to do, what inspires you to get up in the morning eager to start the day. And then figure out how you can get there, and what it would take to be that person. AND THEN DO IT!” ~ unknown.
Would you attempt a trip across the country without a map? Probably not. Just like a roadmap keeps you moving in the right direction, setting goals helps you to focus on what is most important to you. The simple act of defining your goals creates a flood of dopamine from the prefrontal cortex, which helps you stay focused and feel happy. Look at the 3 things you highlighted. On a new piece of paper, write the end goal for each of the highlighted changes you want to make and include the date that you would like the goal to be completed.
Goals without action are just simply words written on a paper. Underneath each of the new goals that you have written down, write down 3-5 action steps that will help you reach your goal. Post these goals and action steps on your calendar, in your phone, on your desk, on your TV, – wherever you will see them and be reminded of them on a daily basis.
Can you really improve your health by seeing the glass as half full, rather than half empty? When you see the world optimistically, things not only look better, they become better and over 80 different studies have proven it! Optimistic people tend to live longer and have better physical and mental health than pessimistic people. Once your goals are written on that paper, believe 100% that they will be accomplished. It’s not a matter of if, but rather a certainty that this is your new life. Once this is committed as a true belief, you will be surprised at how your subconcious takes over and many goals you will reach without even thinking about it.
Just because you believe in your goal, doesn’t mean reaching them won’t take work! Now that you have a basic outline of what you want to achieve and what steps are necessary, commit to doing the things necessary to make your dream come true.
Keep on keeping on! Once you’ve outlined your original three goals, keep adding to your list! Goal sheets are great because even when you are not actively working on them, they act subconsciously as an outline and direction for your life.
